CW Exam Sessions privacy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
CW Exam Sessions supports teacher-directed Chrome exam sessions. The extension is optional and does not make personal devices tamper-proof.
When a student joins, the extension sends the entered name, session code and mode to Classroom Writer. During a session it sends the signed session identifier, connection timing and whether Chrome has focus. Classroom Writer stores session start, contact and end records with the worksheet activity records for the assigned teacher.
The extension stores the current session ticket, worksheet URL, end time and its exam-window identifiers locally. These are removed when the session is released. It reads tab identifiers and the exam tab’s URL to apply restrictions; it does not transmit other tab URLs, browsing history, screenshots, keystrokes or other tab contents.
Session data is used to operate the exam session and show its status to the assigned teacher. It is not sold, used for advertising or used to train AI models. Hosting and database providers process it as described in the CW Privacy Notice.
Session records follow the school’s authorised retention and deletion process. There is no automatic universal purge period. Students should contact their school about access or deletion; authorised schools and account owners can contact Classroom Writer for assistance.
Students explicitly accept the Chrome restrictions before joining. Teachers can end sessions, and the local session deadline releases extension restrictions if the service cannot be reached. On unmanaged devices the extension can be disabled or removed. Worksheet activity collection and the existing worksheet freeze are separate.
